About the author: Vanessa King spent two years in the New York City burlesque scene and has the glitter in her pumps to prove it. A Certain Appeal is her debut novel and love letter to the dynamic, sexy world of twirling tassels and eyelash glue. When not writing, she enjoys reading, wielding a glue gun, and the contrast of red nails against a chrome barbell. She is a recent transplant to Austin, Texas and lives with her husband and daughter.

After years of theatre work and costuming, Viola Vainglory found her true performance love: burlesque. The sparkle, spectacle and sensuality of burlesque fit perfectly into that hole in her heart. She has been creating sweet, sexy and nerdy acts since 2011. Viola has performed at the renowned Show Me Burlesque Festival in St. Louis, Midwest Nerdlesque Festival in Kent, Ohio, The Vintage Cocktail Hour in Dallas, Geek Media Expo in Nashville, as well as Louisville SuperCon. She’s also a regular femcee for Alley Cat Cabaret at Skull’s Rainbow Room, which was recently named one of the best places to see burlesque in the world by Lonely Planet.
